Yesterday I received a beautiful testimonial from Brian Piddington and I just had to share it with you. I feel blessed to be able to bring this much joy to others! Thank you Brian for your kind words and your patronage! You made my day!
When I decided to have a photo of my lovely wife recreated in an oil painting for her parent’s home, I already had a short list of artists. I had seen Shannon’s work on her website and had a good feeling from a piece she had done for a mutual acquaintance. I sent over a copy of the photo early in April and we discussed the project via email and phone. I wanted to ingrain more in the painting than the camera had captured. We talked about the style of home it would be going to, cropping, lighting and colors, clearing some of the background clutter in the photo so that the subject would control the finished piece. The size and budget were agreed upon and I presented my vision for the frame, Shannon diplomatically suggested that I might want to look at other frame styles while she was working on the painting. I left the project and delivery schedule open as art does not necessarily keep a calendar or clock in mind and is finished when it feels done.
After four short weeks of friendly correspondence and status updates Shannon sent me some photos of the finished work. It was truly outstanding and very much what I had envisioned! While the paint was drying, we pushed a few frame ideas back and forth and settled on one that complimented the work beautifully. Shannon uses a great little online tool that plugs the art into the frame, in correct scale, making this so much easier. As soon as the frame landed at Shannon’s studio it was filled, a few quick photos shared, and shipped off to its new home.
When the portrait arrived it was very well received indeed. Her parents loved it and placed a call immediately to my wife, who was not aware of any of my plot. Another unexpected result was that It dusted off and brought to life her girlhood dream of “someday being immortalized in oil”, I had no idea girls thought like that, “live, learn and smile”. The total time from initial conversation to delivery was a very pleasant seven weeks.
The entire project was a complete delight. Everything from the artistry to the invoicing was world class. Shannon is true joy to work with and I look forward to our paths crossing again. If you are thinking of commissioning a painting, all I can say is, “do it”, and Shannon Grissom would be a fine choice. My extended family and I would all give her a very high rating on “smiles per brushstroke”.
