Yesterday I went Plein-air painting at Dawn Lake with my friends at Yosemite Sierra Artists. The company was great, the bullfrogs were singing and the weather was perfect!
It had been a long time since I painted outdoors and I didn’t get very far on my piece (left) but I was really happy with my first statement. The picture on the right shows a bit of the lake and the toned wood panel with which I started. I’m going to let it dry before I go back into it again.
Today I woke up way too early with the lake on my mind. So I got up and decided I’d start another. I painted over a bunch of bell peppers that I fell out of love with, and I’m really happy with this start as well. I love how the original painting is still evident.
Both of these pieces were painted in oils with a palette knife. I love painting Plein-air with a knife as the last thing I want to do after a long day is to come home and clean brushes.
Stay tuned! I’ll post pics when I get these done.
