Paper Palettes

I use paper palettes for oil because clean-up is a breeze.

Wood

I use wood palettes for Plein Air. They won’t blow away and they are lightweight. Mine is clean because I cover it with paper. I’ll admit the last thing I want to do when I get home is clean my palette.

Glass

I use glass palettes with acrylic paint as you can easily wet and scrape off the paint. You can also put colored paper under the glass to match the tone of your canvas.

Palette Keepers

Palette keepers with paper inserts are great when you are painting off-site.

Plastic Palettes

I use these for primarily for watercolor.

Take Out Trays and Paper Plates

These are great for craft projects. I find them too small for fine art painting.

Aluminum Tray

The bottom line, I use different palettes for different scenarios. What’s your favorite palette and why? Please share your experiences here.
