Creating small works with big brushes and even bigger personality!

Transcript From Video:

For this series of studies, I selected six, 2” x 4” linen panels. Sometimes I use oils but this time I used acrylic paint and brushes that were large in relation to the size of the canvas .2" x 4 " linen panel with two paint brushes

Using a metronome I set my timer for an hour, and began to paint. Why the metronome? It’s ticking gives me a sense of urgency and also adds rhythm to the work.

My goals for this session were to loosen up and to quit before I was full. Ya know, like when you are dieting  I gotta admit that sometimes I over-paint.

Here’s what I found along the way:

When the painting surface is a this small every stroke counts. Yeah I know, It’s supposed to count all the time but I found that futzing with these tiny pieces can easily take you places you don’t want to go. I’ve also discovered that doing a series of these really strengthens your larger work. For an extra boost, try a series with the palette knife as well

So go ahead, give it a shot and post pics. I’d love to see what you create.
