Painterly 2-Minute Tip: 5 Ways to Maximize Productivity

posted in: Art

If we only created when conditions were perfect, we’d never get anything done!

Here are 5 ways to maximize your productivity:

  1. Plan your work and work your plan. Even if it’s only for ½ an hour a day, schedule creative time each and every day.
  2. Have more than one painting in progress at a time, at various stages of completion. Sometimes we have “start” energy, sometimes “middle futz” energy, and other times “finish” energy. Having several works in progress ensures we work on something no matter how we feel. For oil painters, this is most important as there are times when the work becomes too wet to work on, and you just need to let them set up before you can continue.
  3. Have a list of ideas/reference photos handy for future use. I have both lists and pictorial files. Are you strictly a digital person? Try using a private Pinterest board and/or use Evernote for ideas.
  4. Join a mastermind group of artists with monthly goals. They will keep you accountable and inspired.
  5. Finally, Turn off your phone/computer and don’t even think of looking at them until after your painting session.

That’s it!
