The Journey IS the Destination

Have you ever noticed that creativity is not linear? It’s different from a straight line, where you can easily follow a path from point A to point B. Instead, creativity is more like a web of interconnected ideas and concepts that can take you in any direction. That’s what makes it so exciting and unpredictable! So don’t be afraid to take a few detours or explore new avenues regarding your creative pursuits.

I started a diptych of a fork and spoon to hang them in my dining room. However, I fell out of love with them before I finished them, so I decided to paint over the work.

Some folks were shocked that I covered up “perfectly good paintings,” but for me, if the love is absent, the paintings don’t shine.

Creativity is Not Linear

I used palette knives rather than a brush and created an abstract landscape when I painted over the work. By the way, I love using palette knives when painting over existing work, as there is no evidence of the underpainting unless you want to leave some of it showing.

People often say that the journey, not the destination, matters. I couldn’t agree more. When we focus solely on the end goal, we miss all the little moments and experiences that make life rich and fulfilling.

During this painting session, I had a grand time. I even danced. But in the end, the painting wasn’t working, so I wiped off most of the paint, and I’ll give it another go once it dries.

I used to be destination-focused, but over the years, I’ve learned that it’s essential to appreciate every step of the way, not just the final outcome. The journey shapes us, teaches us, and helps us grow. So let’s embrace the journey, wherever it may take us! Who knows where it will lead you?
